Young Vikings fan blames company Kirk Cousins endorses for loss to Bears
The Minnesota Vikings faced a win-and-in scenario last Sunday in a Week 17 showdown with the Chicago Bears and laid an absolute egg, with Kirk Cousins putting up a rather awful performance in the clutch.
In the wake of the demoralizing 24-10 loss that ended the Vikings’ season without a playoff berth, a young and clearly embittered fan opted to take a novel approach to identifying a scapegoat for the letdown:
Sleep Number, the mattress company Cousins just happens to endorse.
Marissa, 10, penned a letter to Sleep Number to air her grievances. The correspondence, dated Jan. 1, 2019, was shared by her cousin on Twitter.
My 10 year old cousin, Marissa, was not satisfied with @KirkCousins8 performance on Sunday. She’s fully taking it out on @sleepnumber @Vikings @RandBallsStu #sleepnumber #MNVikings pic.twitter.com/rKoB6jk0Aw— Mikhaila Baltes (@mebaltes) January 2, 2019
Via the Star Tribune:
Dear Sleep Number,
As you know the Vikings lost the game against the Bears. I am writing to you complaining that Kirk Cousins’ Sleep Number mattress is not good enough. That means that he is tired for games and can’t perform at his best.
Despite Marissa’s contention that Cousins’ bed is hindering good rest, the quarterback actually performed capably in 2018 from a statistical perspective in the first season of his three-year, fully guaranteed $84 million deal.
However, Cousins wilted when the lights shined brightest in the biggest games, which has been the book on him going back to his days in Washington.
Sure, there are several factors that played into Cousins’ poor showings in the Vikings’ most critical games this season, chief among them being an incredibly porous offensive line, as well as other factors arguably beyond his control.
That said, Cousins’ failed to be the final piece of the Vikings’ Super Bowl puzzle, at least this season. Should Sleep Number be blamed for that? Probably not, but props to young Marissa for her creativity, something disappointed Vikings fans seem to have in spades amid a frustrating campaign.
