DeAndre Hopkins dedicating game to seven-year-old killed in drive-by shooting
The Houston Texans host the Indianapolis Colts at NRG Stadium Saturday afternoon in the AFC wild-card round, and DeAndre Hopkins will honor the memory of a young girl who tragically lost her life in an outburst of gun violence over the weekend.
Seven-year-old Jazmine Barnes was killed in a drive-by shooting Sunday in Houston when a man opened fire on a car driven by her mother, who, along with Jazmine’s three sisters, were also injured. The attack appears have been random.
“On Saturday, I will be playing in your honor, Jazmine,” Hopkins wrote in a a tweet posted Thursday morning.
When I see Jazmine Barnes' face, I see my own daughter. I'm pledging my playoff check this week to help her family with funeral costs and to support @shaunking @SherriffED_HCSO @SylvesterTurner in bringing this man to justice. “When I see Jazmine Barnes’ face, I see my own daughter. I’m pledging my playoff check this week to help her family with funeral costs,” Hopkins’ tweet continues.
Hopkins’ playoff check amounts to $25,000, which will help Jazmine’s family with funeral costs and add to a reward to help find her killer.
