Cam Jordan skeptical of Ben Roethlisberger’s Hall of Fame credentials
Cam Jordan may have provided Ben Roethlisberger some bulletin-board material this week ahead of the New Orleans Saints-Pittsburgh Steelers showdown Sunday when he openly questioned the quarterback’s Hall of Fame credentials.
In fact, when a reporter suggested Roethlisberger was a future Hall of Famer, Jordan questioned whether Big Ben is even a top-5 quarterback of his era.
“Is that true?” Jordan said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “Really? In this era?”
#Saints Cam Jordan is not buying the idea that #Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger is a future Hall of Famer. Apparently, he's not even one of the Top 5 QB of his era – "I’d honestly put Eli before I put Ben" #PITvsNO #HereWeGo https://t.co/eUxl5N3Nxs pic.twitter.com/uoBdAEu4jN— Simon Chester (@SimonAChester) December 20, 2018
Jordan went on to rattle off the quarterbacks he deems superior to Roethlisberger: Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers before adding Peyton Manning, who retired in 2015.
“You’re saying he’s better than Philip Rivers now? Career wise?” Jordan said, adding another quarterback to the mix.
Jordan still was not done. While conceding Roethlisberger, a two-time Super Bowl champion, conceivably could find a spot within the ranking of top-5 QBs of his era, Jordan added, “I’d honestly put Eli (Manning) before I put Ben.”
Despite Jordan’s protestations, Roethlisberger surely appears to be a lock for enshrinement in Canton once his outstanding NFL career is finished.
Perhaps Jordan was simply being a contrarian with his comments or was trying to pump up his teammates ahead of the game.
On the other hand, maybe Jordan truly believes Roethlisberger is not a Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback. The case can be made there aren’t many people out there who would agree with him, though.
