Manny Machado departs Yankee Stadium after 90-minute meeting

Manny Machado arrived at Yankee Stadium at about 12:30 p.m. local time for a free agency visit and departed approximately 2:00 p.m. following a 90-minute meeting.

The exact timing of the meeting is known because reporters were camped outside the Bronx ballpark to monitor the Machado’s every move.

ESPN’s Coley Harvey chronicled the prized free agent’s arrival and departure on Twitter.

The New York Post even managed to snag a snapshot of Machado.

The Yankees even put up an image of Machado in pinstripes on the Yankee Stadium jumbotron.

It’s strange but hardly surprising Machado’s visit with the Yankees would prompt such rapt attention. After all, the free agent slugger, along with Bryce Harper, remain the hottest commodities on the market.

As far as the meeting goes, Machado is said to have met with general manager Brian Cashman, manager Aaron Boone and CC Sabathia, who all were spotted entering Yankee Stadium prior to the free agent’s arrival. The visit followed Machado meeting with the Chicago White Sox earlier in the week, which started his tour in earnest.

Machado’s hotly anticipated meeting with the Yankees presumably involved team brass asking some fairly pointed questions. Yankees managing general partner Hal Steinbrenner previously referred to Machado’s postseason comments about hustle as “troubling.”

Cashman, meanwhile, stated there are “fair questions to be asked” of Machado given some arguable warning signs.

All that said, the Yankees’ keen interest in the superstar is evident. Still, it will be interesting to see just how much stock the Yankees put into Machado’s explanation for his aforementioned comments and behavior.

It remains uncertain, though, what the exact timetable is when it comes to Machado deciding where to sign. All that’s known at this point is the superstar is slated to meet with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.
