LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony spotted together in New York

Longtime friends LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony enjoyed an evening out together Monday night in New York, a sighting that is sure to increase speculation that the two could soon be playing together with the Los Angeles Lakers.

TMZ Sports has obtained footage of James and Anthony, along with wives Savannah and La La, leaving a steakhouse in midtown. James’ Lakers are in NYC to face the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night.

Anthony, meanwhile, was cut loose by the Houston Rockets after a short stint with the team, a pairing that clearly was not working out. On Nov. 15, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey announced the team would be “parting ways” with the 34-year-old veteran and 10-time All-Star after only 10 games.

A report surfaced a few weeks ago that the superstar was intrigued by the idea of having Anthony join the Lakers. However, subsequent reporting indicated that Lakers brass were not as interested as James when it comes to bringing Anthony into the fold.

There has been little reported interest league-wide concerning Anthony — who has been occasionally posting videos to Instagram to document how he’s staying in shape should a team come calling — so it stands to reason that perhaps James’ influence conceivably could work in the veteran’s favor.

After all, keeping James happy is obviously in the Lakers’ best interests, even if the organization has to capitulate to his desires and whims every now and then.

Then again, the meet-up between James and Anthony simply could be the case of two old pals catching up.
