Justin Verlander has perfect response to losing out on Cy Young
Justin Verlander again finished second in AL Cy Young voting this season, losing out to Tampa Bay Rays ace Blake Snell. This time around, the Houston Astros pitcher took it in stride and had the perfect response to coming up short by putting things in a heartwarmingly proper perspective.
Verlander and wife Kate Upton welcomed their daughter, Genevieve Upton Verlander into the world on Nov. 7, 2018. As word came that Verlander was the proverbial bridesmaid but not the bride for record-tying third time — although coming out the winner on the AL side in 2011 — the ace took to Instagram to point out what truly matter.
“Didn’t win #cyyoungaward,” Verlander writes, “but I can’t be too upset when I have this little girl waiting for her daddy off camera!”
Kate Upton, meanwhile, did not take her husband finishing second yet again — as was the case in 2012 and 2016 — as well as Verlander, albeit in a joking manner, about the locale of the voters who contributed to Verlander coming in second.
While Upton did share Verlander’s sentiments about what really matters in life by sharing the same photograph of daddy and daughter on Instagram, she did take to Twitter to humorously bemoan the situation.
Let’s just say I won’t be going to Tampa any time soon #Tampastrikesagain #CyYoung … Justin wants everyone to know I’m “joking”

Verlander and Upton of course have a new bundle of joy to help temper any disappointment.

It’s safe to say their new family will be just fine without another Cy Young Award.
