Brett Favre weighs in on ‘epic’ Tom Brady-Aaron Rodgers matchup
The showdown between Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 9 has been without question among the biggest talking points ahead of this weekend’s NFL action. Count Brett Favre among those who have been caught up in the hype over the matchup involving two of the greatest quarterback’s in NFL history.
Favre, who also rightfully earned a place as well in the pantheon of all-time signal-callers during his Hall of Fame career, believes ratings for Sunday’s Green Bay Packers-New England Patriots game alone how rare it is for two quarterbacking icons to share the same field.
“Those type of matchups are really kind of what we look forward to as fans,” Favre said, via ESPN. “And this is an epic matchup. Now, is it more than those two playing against each other? Absolutely, and as a coach you’re stressing that. But it is fun to watch. From a fan’s standpoint this is what you look forward to seeing — [Larry] Bird and Magic [Johnson], or a great hitter against a great pitcher.”
“This is one of those games that the ratings will be sky high, and rightfully so. Both quarterbacks are as good as any that has ever played the game, and totally different in styles. I don’t know who I’d give the nod to or the advantage to. Both teams, I’m sure, and both fan bases love their chances.”
A mutual admiration society not surprisingly has played out between Brady and Rodgers this week. Brady has said that Rodgers inspires him to be a better player and Rodgers unequivocally declared Brady the greatest of all-time while referring to the Pats star as a “unicorn.” Even the typically tight-lipped Bill Belichick felt compelled to speak extensively about the Brady-Rodgers debate.
No matter where one falls on the Brady vs. Rodgers on the GOAT spectrum, it goes without saying NFL fans are in for a treat on Sunday night. After all, this is only the second time Brady and Rodgers have squared off during their outstanding careers.
