Jadeveon Clowney takes shot at Brock Osweiler ahead of Dolphins matchup
Brock Osweiler will make his third start of the season for the Miami Dolphins in Week 8 as Ryan Tannehill continues to be sidelined with a shoulder injury.
A nationally televised appearance on “Thursday Night Football” is up next, with the journeyman signal-caller set to face one of his former teams, the Houston Texans, an organization that once viewed him as the long-term solution at the quarterback position.
Things obviously did not work out at all for Osweiler in Houston. Heading into this week’s game, one of his former teammates pointed out as much with some harsh comments about Osweiler’s disastrous one-year stint with the Texans in 2016.
“He ain’t here no more, so I don’t really care for him,” Texans star linebacker Jadeveon Clowney said this week, via the Houston Chronicle. “We didn’t win a lot with him. Trying to go against him now, just trying to get after him this week up front and rattle him in the pocket and hope he throws a couple picks.”
The Texans went all-in on Osweiler in free agency, signing him to a four-year, $72 million contract that included $37 million in guaranteed money. Things quickly went south, however, as Osweiler completed only 59 percent of his passes and threw for 15 touchdowns to 16 interceptions in 15 games (14 started).
A desperate Texans organization then jettisoned Osweiler during the 2017 offseason, trading him to the Cleveland Browns in a move that required a sacrifice in draft capital.
All that said, Clowney is absolutely correct when asserting the Texans did not win a lot of games with Osweiler at the helm. Meanwhile, Osweiler is downplaying the significance of facing his former team this week, saying Thursday’s showdown is “just another game” and that he harbors “no hard feelings” toward the Texans.
