Watch: Ben Zobrist’s creative IG video laments Cubs’ disappointing season
Things did not go as planned for the Chicago Cubs this season. And for all the Cubs fans out there still in mourning as the MLB postseason soldiers on without their beloved team in the mix, Ben Zobrist feels your pain.
The Cubbies’ disappointing 2018 campaign came to an abrupt end after losing a Game 163 showdown with the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central title and then suffering a tough 2-1 loss to the Colorado Rockies in the NL wild card game.
In an effort to assuage Cubs fans’ collective despair, as it were, Zobrist posted a video this week to Instagram in which the Cubs star artfully articulates he feels exactly the same way.
Zobrist enlisted the help of pal and podcast partner, Tim Dillard, to shoot the video. It opens with a dejected Zobrist leaning his head against his pickup’s steering wheel while listening to Mumford & Sons’ “I Will Wait.” Another scene features Zobrist watching playoff baseball on television.

“It always takes me a few weeks to process the season and begin the offseason,” the IG caption reads. Here are my thoughts…..along with a unique way of making light of the postseason that should have been.”
He continued: “Maybe you feel the way I do. It was a very quick and abrupt ending to a good season for us. It leaves a sour taste in my mouth. But let’s not forget all the good that happened. This game and this team gives us something to pass the time, to express our love and passion, to feel the joy of the wins and the pains of the losses, and it calls us to unity when we so easily can be divided about so many other things.”
And finally: “To Baseball and Fans: For the next 5 months until I play next year….
I will wait for you….”
