Von Miller guarantees reeling Broncos will beat Cardinals

A “confident” Von Miller laid it all on the line, saying the reeling Denver Broncos will snap a four-game losing streak by upending the similarly struggling Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a must win, but we’re going to kick their ass, though,” Miller said this week, via ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. “Make sure you put that up there. We’re going to kick their ass. They’re going to get our best this week. Last week was a tough week, week before that, whatever, this week, Thursday night, prime time, they’re going to get the Broncos’ best.”

Miller, who has seen the once-formidable defense become the first one in NFL history to allow a 200-yard rusher in consecutive games, refused to say he has been left irritated by the Broncos’ abysmal start. Instead, Miller stressed he’s “confident,” both in himself and his teammates.

The Broncos, Miller included, have to be feeling extremely disappointed, though. Head coach Vance Joseph already finds himself on the hot seat. Broncos boss John Elway — who appears to have once again swung and missed at steadying the quarterback position with the signing of Case Keenum — called out the team’s defense this week as “soft.”

Miller, a team captain, is attempting to rally the Broncos around him and again is laying it all on the line.

“That’s the way I’m feeling,” Miller said. “… We’ve been preaching our best. Our best, it starts with me. I’ll give it my best this week. My teammates will be right there with me … We just got to go out there and play, and if we go out there and play Broncos football, they won’t be able to play with us. That’s just the way I feel.

“They’re going to get our best on Thursday. They’ve got to come with their best.”

The notion someone playing on a 2-4 team that has dropped four in a row is guaranteeing a victory normally would come off as ludicrous. That said, the Cardinals do sit at 1-5 and are among the NFL’s worst teams … along with arguably the Broncos, despite Miller’s exhibited confidence.
