Gordon Hayward takes to Instagram to reflect on comeback

After all the hard work and grueling rehab, Gordon Hayward at long last returned to the court and played in an NBA regular season game on Tuesday night.

Emotions and nerves not surprisingly were running high for the Boston Celtics star ahead of a tilt with the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden, and he took to Instagram to chronicle some of the moments and share them with his fans.

Hayward’s first game back — a long time coming given he suffered a dislocated left ankle and fractured left tibia during last season’s opening game — featured 25 minutes on the floor during which he knocked off some of the rust by scoring 10 points on 4-of-12 shooting.

And perhaps the icing on the cake for Hayward was how he has been featured in a clever “League of Legends” promotional ad in which his injury and recovery are spotlighted.

Hayward, a noted video game fanatic, shared the spot on Instagram Wednesday morning.

Hayward mentions in the post that fans ought to “[c]heck out my Tryndamere in the top lane!” … whatever that means. Although it’s safe to assume the Celtics superstar finds it pretty awesome and a fitting video game-themed coda to his hard-fought comeback.
