Steve Pearce on Alex Bregman’s IG trolling: ‘We do our talking on the field’

A member of the Boston Red Sox has finally issued a negative response to the recent Instagram-based trolling from Houston Astros star Alex Bregman: First baseman Steve Pearce.

The hullabaloo all started during Monday’s off-day ahead of Game 3 of the ALCS. Bregman posted an Instagram story in which Boston’s Game 3 starter Nate Eovaldi is shown getting crushed by the Astros to the tune of back-to-back-to-back home runs earlier this season when he was a member of the Tampa Bay Rays.

While the Red Sox, all evened up with the Astros at one game apiece, have not said much about the video, Pearce called out Bregman for the troll job during an interview with Boston’s WEEI.com.

“Wow. I don’t know why he would do that,” Pearce said. “We do our talking on the field. If he wants to run his mouth now we’ll see who is talking at the end of the series. I don’t think he needs to run his mouth. He’s one of the best players in the game. If that’s his personality, that’s his personality. Nothing against the guy. If that’s how he has to motivate himself, whatever.”

Astros manager A.J. Hinch reportedly instructed Bregman to delete the video that spawned the controversy, which he did. Hinch went on to acknowledge that the video arguably crossed a line despite it being “all in good fun.”

Game 3 comes Tuesday night at Minute Maid Park. Expect the Red Sox, as Pearce stated, allow their play to do most of the talking. Whether that means Boston comes out with a 2-1 series lead on the road, however, is another story.
