Tom Brady texted Jimmy Garoppolo after confirmed ACL tear
Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers on Monday learned the worst potential outcome had come to fruition when it was confirmed the quarterback had indeed tore his ACL in Sunday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Garoppolo presumably has been receiving widespread condolences and support in the wake of the devastating news that his season was over. And Tom Brady, a New England Patriots teammate for over three seasons, was among those who reached out to Garoppolo.
“Yeah, I did text him,” Brady said during his weekly interview on Westwood One during “Monday Night Football,” via NESN. “I just told him he’ll be back better than ever. It’s a tough injury. I’ve been through it. I’ve seen, obviously, so many teammates over the years go through that injury. It’s very prevalent in football for one reason or another, and it’s a tough injury. It’s a tough rehab.
“But he’s a tough guy. They’re pretty good at that surgery these days, so he’ll be back soon, and he’ll be back ready for next year, I’m sure.”
As Brady noted, he of course knows firsthand the disappointment of experiencing a season-ending injury with so many games left to be played. The Patriots veteran signal-caller actually suffered a torn ACL himself during a Week 1 game during the 2008 season. And as Brady states, there is no reason Garoppolo can recover from this setback as well has he did.
Interestingly, Garoppolo just last week mentioned how he and Brady “still text here and there” to remain in contact. While the news learned Monday obviously was the worst case scenario, it must be encouraging for Garoppolo to know there are a lot of people out there, including Brady, pulling for him.
