Jimmy Butler played pickup game in Minneapolis amid trade demand

Jimmy Butler is staying away from the Minnesota Timberwolves for the most part as the team seemingly is making the effort to comply with his trade demand. Butler is said to still be recovering from offseason wrist surgery and would not have been practicing with the team during the first week of camp, even absent the current situation.

That said, the disgruntled superstar reportedly is still getting in some time on the basketball court. According to a report from the Star Tribune’s Michael Rand, Butler has been spotted a two Twin Cities-area health clubs this week, participating in a pickup basketball game on one day and taking part in a workout the next.

Multiple people told me Butler played in a pickup game Monday at the downtown Life Time Minneapolis Athletic Club, just a few blocks away from Target Center where media day was going on. Photographic evidence (above) confirms that he was, indeed there.

And on Tuesday, Butler was spotted doing a workout and getting some shots up at the Life Time Fitness in Plymouth while the rest of the Wolves were participating in the first day of training camp…

It merits noting that Butler did make a brief appearance at the Target Center on Monday for a physical exam but departed afterward.

On Tuesday, Tom Thibodeau insisted the team is making a good faith effort to trade Butler, despite rumors indicating the Timberwolves coach and president of basketball operations is still reluctant to trade Butler. This comes after Butler reportedly doubled-down on his insistence the Wolves deal him as soon as possible.

“We’ll look at what’s out there and if something is good for us that’s what we want to do,” Thibodeau said Tuesday, via the Star Tribune. “We’re going to honor his request but we’re not going to do a bad deal. I think we made that clear [Monday].”

By all appearances, both the Timberwolves and Butler have done little to increase his trade value. In fact, just the opposite, although the assumption is Butler will get his wish sooner rather than later.
