Doug Pederson announces Nick Foles as Eagles’ Week 2 starter

As expected, Nick Foles has once again gotten the nod and will start for the Philadelphia Eagles in a Week 2 matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, head coach Doug Pederson announced on Wednesday morning.

As noted in Rapoport’s tweet, Carson Wentz still has not been cleared for contact.

Foles of course played in the Eagles’ Week 1 win over the Atlanta Falcons last Thursday. While the veteran struggled — going 19-of-34 for 117 yards, no touchdowns and an interception for a subpar 50.7 rating — he did enough to eke out a 18-12 win over the Atlanta Falcons. And as Eagles offensive coordinator Mike Groh mentioned earlier this week, that’s all the Eagles are asking out of Foles at this point.

The fact that Wentz, who has been taking part in 11-on-11 drills, has not yet been cleared for contact has to be somewhat of a concern. It’s believed Wentz conceivably could return for the Eagles’ Week 3 game against the Indianapolis Colts. Other reports have speculated Wentz could be out into October, though.

However, the Eagles are said to have “much more optimism” that Wentz’s return will come “sooner than later,” per a report from last weekend.

Still, as far as Sunday is concerned, the Eagles will roll with Foles once again, which hardly comes as a surprise.
