John Daly shares great story about Tiger Woods rebuffing his offer for drinks

John Daly again has spun a fantastic yarn about how Tiger Woods once rejected his offer to join him for some drinks, and the hilarious aftermath of the snub.

Daly recently reminisced about the incident during Barstool Sports’ “Fore Play” podcast. The drinks rebuff apparently occurred ahead of Target World Challenge in 2004 when Daly repeatedly asked Woods to sit down and have a drink or two or three with him. Woods evidently had other plans in mind.

“The story was, he’s walking out and I go, ‘Tiger, come have a drink with us.’ He’s in his slacks and he goes, ‘No, I’m going to hit a few balls,’” Daly recalled, as transcribed by the New York Post.

After about three hours passed, Daly encountered Woods and again made the offer to have some drinks.

“He comes back, he’s in his gym shorts and [I’m like], ‘What the hell you doing now? Come have a drink with us.’ [He said], ‘Well, I’m going to work out,'” Daly said. “I said, ‘Come have a drink with us, seriously, you’ve been out here for nine hours, I’ve been drinking for nine, at least have one with us.’ So he goes, ‘No, Daly, if I had your talent I’d be doing just what you’re doing.'”

Woods and Daly were paired up the next day. And wouldn’t you know it, Daly’s prolonged drinking session had no ill effects.

“We got paired the next day, kicked his ass,” Daly said of Woods. “About the only time I ever kicked his ass, but I did. I shot 65 on him and he goes, ‘You know what, I may have to start drinking.’”

Daly of course has battled substance abuse issues in the past but the two-time major winner soldiers on. The 52-year-old currently is playing quite a bit on the Champions Tour along with a smattering of appearances on the PGA circuit.
