Twitter reacts to Jameis Winston posing with Hulk Hogan at Bucs camp

Pro wrestling icon Hulk Hogan, who lives nearby in Clearwater, Fla., dropped by Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp on Tuesday and spent some time visiting with players.

While Hogan’s pop-in was warmly received by Bucs players — some of whom proclaimed to be longstanding Hulkamaniacs themselves — a photograph of the Hulkster posing with Jameis Winston appeared to attract the most outside attention.

In fact, the photograph of Hogan and Winston — both of whom have experienced controversial setbacks in their respective careers — elicited some interesting reactions on Twitter.

Winston will be sidelined to start the 2018 season while serving a three-game suspension due to a violation of the league’s personal conduct policy. The NFL conducted a lengthy investigation into an incident in March of 2016 in which Winston was accused by a female Uber driver of groping her during a ride in Arizona.

While Winston is attempting to rehabilitate his image, the Buccaneers have taken alternative steps, even omitting the quarterback from a handful of team promotions.

Hogan, as noted, has experienced his own fair share of controversy as well in recent years, via the Bradenton Herald:

Hogan, meanwhile, was fired by World Wrestling Entertainment and removed from the WWE Hall of Fame after an audio tape surfaced with Hogan using racially-charged expletives. Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, also had a sex tape published, which he later earned a settlement in court.

The WWE reinstated Hogan to the Hall of Fame last month after a three-year suspension.

There certainly is nothing wrong with Winston and Hogan posing for a photograph together. That said, it’s all about the optics, which appears to summarize the general reaction on social media to the pairing.
