Colin Kaepernick’s name restored in song on ‘Madden 19’ soundtrack

EA Sports have restored Colin Kaepernick’s name into a song on the soundtrack of “Madden 19” following public outcry, including from the artist whose song was edited along with condemnation from the out-of-work quarterback.

The track, “Big Bank” by YG, conspicuously had Kaepernick’s name scrubbed from a song lyric.

EA Sports issued an apology last week when it admitted the removal of Kaepernick’s name was due to an “unfortunate mistake” after “members of our team misunderstood the fact that while we don’t have rights to include Colin Kaepernick in the game, this doesn’t affect soundtracks.”

The video game company also indicated it would restore Kaepernick’ name in the game’s song.

“We messed up, and the edit should never have happened,” the statement read. “We will make it right, with an update to Madden NFL 19 on August 6 that will include the reference again.”

Kaepernick also sounded off on having his name scrubbed from the song with numerous retweets and the like on his official Twitter account. He later expressed gratitude for the groundswell of support amid the controversy.

As noted in a TMZ Sports report, a widespread call for a boycott of the game was in the works, one essentially endorsed by Kaepernick via his social media activity regarding the issue. It remains to be seen if any boycott will occur after EA Sports made good on their promise and restored Kaepernick’s name in the track.
