Red Sox continue to troll Yankees on Twitter amid series sweep

The Boston Red Sox wrapped up a huge four-game sweep of the New York Yankees on Sunday night at Fenway Park, coming back from three runs down to ultimately win by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings. And with the opportunity presented to bask in creating an arguably insurmountable 9.5-game lead in the AL East, the Red Sox took to Twitter to troll their division rivals.

The social media shenanigans began after the Yankees tweeted out how putting up a four spot in the top of the 7th inning ought to “do the trick.”

A tweet from the official account of Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster fired back a message in response after the Red Sox scored three runs in the ninth to tie the score and another run in the 10th to seal the sweep.

Wall also changed his Twitter header to document the savage comeback.

The social media trolling did not end there, either. The Red Sox’s official Twitter account doubled-down on a previous troll-job at the expense of Brian Cashman. The Yankees general manager last week argued the Bronx Bombers have been the only team who have been able to inflict “damage” on the Red Sox.

After seemingly trolling Cashman over the remark on Thursday night, Red Sox Twitter was back at it after Sunday’s win, once again making mention of “damage” in a trolling tweet.

Game. Set. Match.

As noted, the series sweep provided the Red Sox with a stranglehold on the AL East. It will be incredibly difficult for the Yankees to mount a charge and challenge the Red Sox for the division title sitting so far back. And for one series, Boston sure enjoyed rubbing that notion in on social media.
