Watch: Jake Diekman only needs ride in D-backs’ bullpen cart to join team

Jake Diekman was traded by the Texas Rangers to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday and to say it was a quick trip to join his new team would be an understatement.

The Rangers and Diamondbacks are in the midst of a brief two-game series at Chase Field, so Diekman merely had to travel from the visitor’s clubhouse to the home one to join his new teammates.

Thankfully, Diekman did not even need to hoof it to the D-backs’ clubhouse, as team mascot D. Baxter the Bobcat was on hand to serve as chauffeur for the short trip. Even better? The Diamondbacks’ feline mascot was afforded the use of the team’s brand-new bullpen cart, which was rolled out at the start the season.

The D-backs posted video of Diekman’s leisurely ride through the back halls of Chase Field.

Neat. The Diamondbacks also posted video to Twitter showing how the team got quickly prepared for Diekman’s arrival.

Welcome to Arizona, Jake Diekman. Although the pitcher probably should not expect D. Baxter the Bobcat to be on call to drive him around everywhere now.
