Kyle Shanahan snags swag from Lil Wayne for naming son after rapper (pics)

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan is a huge fan of Lil Wayne. So much so, in fact, that Shanahan actually named his son Carter after the hip-hop icon (Lil Wayne’s surname is Carter).

Lil Wayne evidently caught wind of the news that the Niners coach is a superfan, so the rap mogul sent along some swag to Shanahan and young Carter, including personalized, signed posters and autographed CD copies of 2008’s “The Carter III” and 2011’s “The Carter IV.”

Those who find it … odd that Shanahan is an unabashed Lil Wayne fan, former college teammate Chris Simms let the cat out of the bag earlier this year on a podcast (via The Mercury News):

Kyle Shanahan “was obsessed with Lil Wayne my early years in the NFL,” Simms said on the podcast. “Kyle’s one of those guys, if you’re hanging and we’re drinking some beers or whatever, he’s got to control the music. And he has A.D.D., so we can never actually listen to a full song.”

Lil Wayne got heavy rotation in Shanahan’s playlist, according to Simms.

“Oh my gosh, yes,” Simms said. “So he named his little boy Carter.”

Does this make Shanahan the coolest head coach in the NFL or what? And it goes without saying young Carter has a phenomenal story to tell whenever asked about how he got his first name.
