Todd Gurley celebrates $60 million contract with great Instagram post (pic)
Todd Gurley and the Los Angeles Rams reset the market for running backs courtesy of a reported four-year, $60 million contract. And Gurley not surprisingly appeared in a celebratory mood on social media in light of the development.
The 23-year-old running back took to Instagram to post a photograph showing him popping champagne and spraying it everywhere, although it’s unclear when exactly the image portrayed occurred.
The Rams on Tuesday revealed an agreement on an extension was reached but declined to disclose the terms of the deal. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported earlier Tuesday that the contract is for $60 million and features $45 million in guaranteed money. Schefter subsequently added Gurley stands to receive a $20 million signing bonus, per a source.
Rams general manager Les Snead believes the deal allows the organization to “get ahead of the curve” with Gurley, who was signed through 2019 but the new deal locks him up until 2023.
“He’s a big weapon for us,” Snead said Tuesday of Gurley, who notched 2,093 all-purpose yards in first-year head coach Sean McVay’s system.
“Last year’s production isn’t really a reflection of the value that he provides because he did such a great job, but he’s so much more than that to our team,” Mean McVay said, via ESPN. “The way that he competes in protection, the way that he works and the way that rubs off on his teammates.”
And if there’s ever a reason to pop bottles, a $60 million deal including $45 million guaranteed along with a $20 million signing bonus certainly merits such an over-the-top celebration.
