Antonio Brown posts touching tribute to the late Dan Rooney

Antonio Brown will never forget the role the late Dan Rooney played when the Pittsburgh Steelers took a chance on him in the sixth round of 2010 NFL Draft.

A relative unknown on the national front out of Central Michigan at the time, the Steelers and Brown of course have benefited greatly from taking a flier on a wide receiver coming out of the MAC. After all, Brown is considered among the top, if not the best, wide receiver in NFL who continues to receive accolade after accolade up to and including this week.

On what would have been Mr. Rooney’s 86th birthday on Friday, Brown took to Instagram to post a heartfelt message along with a touching slideshow tribute to the late Steelers owner.

Brown’s message reads:

“Dear Mr. Rooney,

“You would have been 86 today ! I am reminded of your character and generosity. All I have to do is look down, the 84 in part represents the 84 years you graced this earth making an impact.

“Your passion for the game, people and life are a constant motivation for me. Thank you.

Rooney died at the age of 84 on April 13, 2017. Among the dignitaries who attended his funeral were former President Barack Obama. There’s no real way to articulate how revered Mr. Rooney was by Steelers fans, not to mention the respect afforded to him by the NFL community. Although Brown’s touching tribute is a nice start.
