Watch: Magic Johnson trolls LaVar Ball while discussing LeBron James

Magic Johnson made an appearance Wednesday night on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and joked the talk-show host was more likely to receive a call from him than LaVar Ball.

The Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations not surprisingly spoke at length about the franchise-changing acquisition of LeBron James. Kimmel jokingly asked Johnson if a phone call to LaVar Ball was needed before signing James, Magic responded with a joke of his own.

“I would’ve called you first before I called LaVar Ball,” Johnson quipped. “Trust me.”

Zing.

The elder Ball’s meddlesome nature when it comes to the Lakers of course has been well-documented. Ever since the Lakers selected his son Lonzo with the second-overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, the outspoken Ball has been a thorn in the organization’s side.

Ball has ripped the organization, questioned Luke Walton’s coaching acumen and attempted to interject himself into nearly ever facet of the Lakers operation.

Not only that, Ball and James have something of a history, and not a good one.

In 2017, the elder Ball made the case that his three sons were better set up for success than James’ sons. This not surprisingly elicited an acerbic rebuke from James.

“Keep my kids’ name out of your mouth. Keep my family out of your mouth,” James said in March 2017. “This is dad to dad. It’s a problem now.”

Ever since James signed on with the Lakers — something Ball interestingly predicted back in June — Ball not surprisingly has been singing a different tune. He even envisions forging a “powerful” alliance with James in a bid to take over L.A.

Let’s just say that’s as likely to happen as Magic Johnson actually consulting LaVar Ball on any management decision. Ever.
