Rick Carlisle hires Jenny Boucek to assistant position on Mavs’ staff

The Dallas Mavericks have hired Jenny Boucek to serve as an assistant on the coaching staff, per an announcement by head coach Rick Carlisle.

Boucek brings a lot of coaching experience to the Mavs’ staff. Boucek has been a head coach with the WNBA’s Seattle Storm and Sacamento Monarchs and previously served on the Sacramento Kings’ coaching staff.

Boucek’s role with Mavericks comes with the title of assistant to the basketball staff for special projects.

“She will be involved in wide-ranging basketball assignments,” Carlisle said, via SportsDay. “Jenny is a veteran WNBA head coach and was a player development coach last season for the Sacramento Kings.

“I consider her one of the brightest minds in our game and welcome her to Dallas.”

Carlisle and Boucek also share an alma matter, the University of Virginia, where she starred on the court before moving on to the WNBA. Boucek spent one year with the Cleveland Rockers in the WNBA’s inaugural season before a short stint in Europe before moving into the coaching ranks.

Boucek is the first female ever to serve on a Mavericks’ coaching staff, although she spent some time with the team during 2014 training camp. Boucek joins Becky Hammon (San Antonio Spurs), Nancy Lieberman (Sacramento Kings) and Natalie Nakase (Los Angeles Kings), who are among the women who serve or have served on an NBA team’s coaching staff.
