Sports Illustrated unveil incredible Lakers-themed LeBron James cover (pic)

LeBron James’ decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers — one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports — next season not surprisingly has been the biggest story of the NBA offseason. Leave it to Sports Illustrated to adequately — and impressively — summarize the magnitude of the union on one of its covers.

The cover features James depicted in his new No. 23 Lakers uniform staring down icons from the team’s storied past — or perhaps more accurately, being stared down by them — including the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal, among others.

James made his second exodus out of Cleveland to L.A. official on Monday when he signed his four-year, $153.3 million deal with the team.

It goes without saying the esteemed legacy of the players featured on the SI cover undoubtedly sets the bar extremely high for James if he hopes to even come within sniffing distance of matching their tremendous accomplishments.

That said, as has always been the case with James’ offseason preparations, The King is already back in the gym and hard at work getting ready for his inaugural season with the storied Lakers franchise. And it looks like James is more than up for the considerable challenge.
