J.R. Smith tweaks himself on IG over NBA Finals mental meltdown (pic)

J.R. Smith took to Instagram on Monday to poke fun at himself over arguably one of the most mind-boggling mental lapses in NBA Finals history, showing he has a good sense of humor about his infamous meltdown.

Posting a photograph of Dakota, the youngest of Smith’s three daughters (who has an inspiring story of her own), the Cleveland Cavaliers star tweaked his Game 1 antics by making note of the look on the youngster’s face.

Well played.

The surreal scene referenced by Smith in his amusing IG post played out during Game 1 of the Finals when Cavaliers guard George Hill was fouled by Klay Thompson with 4.7 seconds left in regulation and the Warriors up 107-106. Hill made the first free throw but clanked his second attempt. Smith came up with the huge rebound but shockingly dribbled the ball out towards mid-court before passing the ball as time expired.

The Warriors capitalized on Smith’s mistake, going on to secure a 124-114 overtime victory on their way to a series sweep of the Cavs.

The debacle, which left other players on the court baffled, paved the way to a Warriors’ sweep and will live on in NBA infamy. So much so that Smith’s Game 1 jersey recently netted a whopping $23,548 at auction.

Suffice to say, Smith, one of the most eccentric — and unpredictably enigmatic — personalities in the NBA, clearly is capable of laughing at himself, even at such a monumentally stupefying blunder.
