‘Refreshed’ Rob Gronkowski ‘super excited’ about upcoming season
It took some time for Rob Gronkowski to finally decide to play in 2018 after contemplating retirement at the onset of the offseason. But now the New England Patriots tight end feels “refreshed” and “super excited” about the upcoming season.
Gronkowski reportedly is embroiled in an ongoing dispute with the Patriots over his contract terms. However, during an interview Monday with former Patriot-turned-NFL Network analyst Willie McGinest, Gronkowski made it clear such issues are not dampening his enthusiasm for the 2018 campaign.

“I’m super excited about the upcoming season,” Gronkowski said, as transcribed by NESN. “It’s going to be fun. We’ve got another year, another training camp — always a grind, gotta get yourself through that — (I’m) just excited for the season.
“You know how it goes. Another year down, you know what to expect going into Year 9, you know how to do it, so I kind of feel like that’s always good to have in the back of your mind. You know how to do it, you know what to do, so I’m super excited for this year.”
Gronk also addressed the retirement rumors that persisted early on this offseason before he announced in April he would return. It would appear that whatever Gronkowski did, it has left him with renewed enthusiasm.
“I am refreshed,” Gronkowski said. “You know how after a long season your body can feel and everything, so I just wanted to see where I was at and see how I can get my body feeling, see if I can handle it and endure it again, and I feel super ready.”
Reports surfaced recently that the Patriots shopped Gronkowski to a handful of teams before the draft. However, nothing obviously came to fruition. There is no question Gronkowski deserves to be among the highest-paid tight ends in the league. But it will be interesting to see how things shake out heading into training camp and beyond on that front.
Perhaps Gronk will again seek out the advice of Mark Wahlberg should things hit a snag.
