Report: LeBron James’ camp has ‘pretty much denied’ every rumor
There not surprisingly has been no shortage of rampant rumors and endless speculation concerning LeBron James’ future. Given the current Cleveland Cavaliers superstar on Friday is expected to decline the player option in the final year of his contract with the Cavs, expect the conjecture to continue until The King ultimately announces his plans.
Among the rumors involving James’ anticipated free agency move include him purportedly reaching out to Kevin Durant via text about playing with the Los Angeles Lakers and discussions related to possible obstacles related to teaming up with Kawhi Leonard and/or in L.A. And that’s just the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
That said, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, among the top go-to reporters in all things LeBron-related, recently pointed out that James’ camp is going all-out to throw cold water on each and every report alleging the superstar’s potential free agency motivations.
“The LeBron operation, I don’t know how else to put it, but they have basically thrown cold water and vehemently denied everything that has been out there the last couple of days,” Windhorst said this week on “The Land On Demand” podcast, as transcribed by RealGM. “They have denied that he is communicating with Kawhi Leonard. They have denied he is communicating with Kevin Durant about joining up in Los Angeles. They have denied there is a three-way conversation going on between Paul George, Kawhi and LeBron. They have denied that Kawhi being traded to the Lakers would clinch LeBron going to the Lakers.
“They have pretty much denied that any of that is happening.”
As noted, the prevailing presumption is that James will become a free agent shortly. And then “LeBron Decision 3.0” or “James Watch 2019” or whatever slogan is preferred will escalate into complete, unchecked frenzy. It should make for one crazy ride with repercussions that ought to dramatically alter the NBA’s landscape.
The NBA officially kicks of its new league year on Sunday just after 12:00 a.m. ET. Buckle up.
