Ben Simmons has great reaction to ‘Not My ROTY’ t-shirts
Ben Simmons was named the Rookie of the Year for the 2017-18 NBA season amid controversy surrounding his argued ineligibility for the award over a technicality. And the Philadelphia 76ers star had a great reaction to a company rolling out a t-shirt questioning the legitimacy of him being named the league’s top “first-year” player.
A #NOTMYROTY shirt is making the rounds on Instagram, and despite the relatively low profile of the company producing the shirt, Simmons somehow caught wind of the apparel-based slight. Simmons took to the comments section to fire off a great response to the post, as noticed by Bleacher Report.

There was quite a bit of debate as the season wore on about whether Simmons merited rookie status given he was selected by the Sixers in the 2016 NBA Draft. However, by not playing during the 2016-17 season due to injury, league policy dictated he was technically still a rookie in 2017-18.
In the end, Simmons garnered 90 of 101 first-place votes in Rookie of the Year voting, while dynamic Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell — with whom Simmons engaged in a little back and forth throughout the season about the award race — netted only 11 first-place votes.
Despite all the controversy and hand-wringing — not to mention trolling — Simmons is the Rookie of the Year for the past NBA season. And it would appear Simmons has a great sense of humor over all the noise.
