Terrell Owens reacts to Falcons’ concern over Julio Jones training with him
Julio Jones has been training with Terrell Owens amid the Atlanta Falcons wide receiver deciding to skip the team’s mandatory minicamp. The Falcons are said to be “uneasy” over the situation and T.O. cannot understand the source of concern.
“I have no idea where all of this is coming from,” Owens told Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman. “I have nothing to do with Julio except training. This is the media trying [to] create something that’s not even there. It’s very unfortunate. What possible reason would they have to create that narrative?”
One can arguably come up with a few reasons why the Falcons would be leery of T.O. possibly putting thoughts in Jones’ head, and it appears the team shared those sentiments.
When word got out that Jones had taken on Owens as a workout partner, D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution weighed in on the situation during an appearance on ESPN Charlotte.
“The fact that he’s running around with Terrell Owens has the front office uneasy,” Ledbetter said, via CBS Sports. “The fact that he held out and is bucking the whole ‘brotherhood’ thing has them a little bit uneasy too. They’ll have to mend some fences, no question about it, once he returns.”
Jones presumably is attempting to make the Falcons sweat by skipping minicamp in an effort to secure a new deal. Although Jones strongly disputes such a notion, saying in May it had nothing to do with his contract.
Where things go from here remains to be seen. That said, the case can be made the Falcons ought to be concerned that T.O. has Jones’ ear, whether or not there is any real cause for concern.
