Baker Mayfield destroys Colin Cowherd over frequent criticism (vid)

Baker Mayfield had the opportunity on Thursday to directly confront Colin Cowherd over a barrage of criticism the FS1 personality has been sending his way for some time.

While there were several intriguing exchanges between Mayfield and Cowherd during the interview, one in particular allowed Mayfield to put Cowherd in his place over the frequent barbs.

Sporting a shirt that bore the word “Undraftable” — a reference to what Cowherd once deemed him — Mayfield took the host to task over insinuating he was a bad teammate.

The crux of Cowherd’s argument involved the Oklahoma Sooners’ 31-16 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes last year, specifically involving Mayfield running over to the student section to celebrate after a touchdown.

Here’s the exchange.

“Our band was over there. Our student section’s right there and then (I went) straight back to our sideline,” Mayfield said, as transcribed by Shutdown Corner. “Did you watch the rest of the game? You did? So you saw me celebrate with my teammates the three TDs before that, too? You pulled the one clip of me right there running to our fans that traveled well to that game and then you didn’t show the rest of our clip of me running to our sideline?

“You’re acting like I just ran away from everybody. I feel like you’re going for the ‘I’m not a team guy, I’m selfish.’ Is that what you’re shooting for here or what?”

Game. Set. Match. If Mayfield can exhibit that kind of self-assured confidence and composure on the gridiron, the Cleveland Browns made an astute decision in making him the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. And it appears Mayfield is proving as much by saying and doing all the right things at Browns headquarters as well.
