Charles Barkley unloads on ‘dumb’ Cavaliers after Game 3 loss (vid)
Charles Barkley tore into the Cleveland Cavaliers over an awful showing on defense during Wednesday’s 110-102 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. In fact, the TNT analyst went so far as to call the Cavs the “dumb” for their uninspired effort on the defensive end of the court.
“I’ve never seen a team that dumb in my life. The play that Dominique (Wilkins) and Dennis Scott,” Barkley said during NBA TV’s postgame show. “We talked about before the game, I bet … how many you think? 10, 12, 15 layups on a simple slip screen. For the same play to work that many times, that’s just stupidity.
“You have to blame the players to a certain degree, and the coaches. To run a simple play like that and get a layup every single time, that’s just dumb and stupid, plain and simple.”
To reinforce Barkley’s tear-down of the Cavs’ defensive efforts, the numbers don’t lie, either.
The @warriors had no trouble getting to the basket in Game 3.
They shot 18-21 on uncontested FG within 3 feet of the basket in Game 3, the most such makes and attempts this postseason.

Barkley is never one to hold back or pull punches when providing his unique perspective on the NBA. He simply calls it as he sees it. And what he saw out of the Cavaliers on Wednesday night certainly got him lathered up. And quite frankly, Barkley’s analysis was less of a hot take and more a sound observation on what played out on the Quicken Loans Arena court.
And with the Cavaliers down 3-0 to the seemingly unstoppable Warriors? Sir Charles called the NBA Finals all but wrapped up, saying, “This is a wrap, brother.”
It’s hard to argue with that assessment at this point. Game 4 tips off Friday night in Cleveland with Golden State all set for another championship coronation, the team’s third NBA title in four years.
