Maya Moore recreates iconic Michael Jordan ‘Wings’ pose for ad (pic)

Maya Moore is without question among the best players in the WNBA. And along with the fact that the Minnesota Lynx superstar was signed by Jordan Brand upon joining the league in 2011, the perfect storm was created for Moore to recreate an iconic pose from the brand’s namesake.

An enormous ad was unveiled nearby Target Center in downtown Minneapolis on Sunday in which Moore is featured doing a pose Michael Jordan struck in his legendary “Wings” poster from 1989, arms outstretched, basketball in one hand.

“It’s history, I think, just for our game,’’ Moore said, via the Star Tribune. “Such an iconic image to be a part of that. Just seeing the tweets and the pictures of the little girls doing the wings pose has been really inspiring.’’

Interestingly, Moore says she owned the legendary poster and had it up on her wall.

“I still have it,’’ she said. “So it’s pretty cool.’’

Jordan Brand also debuted on Sunday an ad featuring the “Wings” theme.

Moore, 28, is a four-time WNBA champion with the Lynx after the dynasty defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy in a thrilling Finals last year.  With that pedigree, among other intangibles, Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve believes the ad campaign is “perfect” and could go on to inspire another generation of young basketball players.

“Those young girls who take the picture, it will be with them for a long, long time. When they get to be our age, they’re going to talk about the photo they had in their bedroom when they were growing up,” Reeve said. “Maybe they want to play, be like Maya. Maybe they end up being just as good as Maya. Cool stories come from that.’’
