DeMarcus Cousins on impending free agency: ‘We’ll see what happens’
DeMarcus Cousins faces an uncertain future on the eve of hitting free agency. And finally, after some cryptic shenanigans perpetrated by Cousins on social media, the superstar has finally opened up about the New Orleans Pelicans, returning from injury and other pressing issues.
Cousins recently took part in an in-depth interview with The Undefeated’s Marc J. Spears in which the 27-year-old weighed in on what comes next; although he said his immediate goal is to be ready to go come training camp regardless of what occurs in free agency.
“I’m looking forward to starting the season,” Cousins said. “That’s my own personal goal, so we’ll see what happens. That’s what I’m working on. The doctors haven’t really given me an answer because of the time I injured myself and the amount of time that I have. … But for me, I’m shooting to be ready for training camp.”
Reports have suggested the Pelicans are inclined to offer Cousins a short-term contract in light of his season-ending injury, which occurred when Cousins suffered a torn left Achilles’ tendon in late January. With unrestricted free agency on the horizon in July, Cousins weighed in on whether or not the Pelicans remain an option.
“I know for a fact my teammates want me back there, but you know it’s a business. The people in the front office are going to make the best decision for the team or whatever they feel is the best decision,” Cousins said. “You know, we’ll see what happens. I honestly can’t answer that question, I haven’t spoken to the front office in a while, so we’ll see what happens.”
Interestingly, Cousins insists he has not spoken with Pelicans brass “in a while,” however.
As noted, Cousins has been engaging in some cryptic antics of late on social media. First, he unfollowed the Pelicans on Instagram. And then came the following development that at least subjectively hints at where Cousins’ mind is right now.
Demarcus Cousins has recently unfollowed the Pelicans on instagram and followed Paul George, Isaiah Thomas, and Julius Randle! The again, Cousins simply could be trolling the NBA world with his antics. As Cousins himself stated, we’ll have to see what happens.
