Phil Mickelson agrees to endorse shirt that caused stir at Masters (pic)

A button-down, long-sleeve shirt worn by Phil Mickelson during a practice round with Tiger Woods at Augusta National Golf Club ahead of the Masters generated a huge amount of buzz, among other things.

“The only thing that was missing was a tie,” Woods joked when commenting on Mickelson’s unique attire.

Now, however, mockery and ribbing aside, Mickelson has signed on to endorse the company behind the unorthodox golf shirt and reportedly will even be wearing it once again on the course at some point.

“Phil is one of the most well-known golfers of all time and loved by virtually every fan in golf,” Mizzen+Main founder Kevin Lavelle said, via ESPN. “Having someone at this level demonstrate so clearly the performance capabilities of our dress shirts while competing is absolutely phenomenal.”

Lavelle added the shirts available for purchase and retail for $125 will be identical to those donned by Mickelson.

The 47-year-old is expected to arrive at TPC Sawgrass nattily attired in the spiffy, long-sleeved shirt for Friday’s second round of The Players Championship. Joining him on the first tee that day will be Woods, who of course is familiar with Mickelson’s fashion-forward look, and Rickie Fowler.
