Shaq delivers great Kobe line in official trailer for ‘Uncle Drew’ (vid)
Kyrie Irving may be sitting out the postseason with injury, but the feature-length film about the Boston Celtics star’s on-screen alter-ego, Uncle Drew — originally developed in a series of Pepsi commercials — now has an official trailer.
Among the great things gleaned from the trailer is how the character, Big Fella — as portrayed by Shaquille O’Neal, drops a great reference about Kobe Bryant, with whom he of course enjoyed successful, albeit complicated, partnership during their championship runs with Los Angeles Lakers.
During one clip featured in the trailer, O’Neal’s character Big Fella calls out Uncle Drew for being a ball hog, saying, “Pass the ball, Kobe!” Ouch.
Here’s the trailer.
The game is filled with stories of legends and how they were born. This is not that story. Watch the NEW trailer for #UncleDrew now and see it in theaters June 29! pic.twitter.com/mMP6KCtQQ9

Along with featuring Irving as the film’s titular star, “Uncle Drew” also features O’Neal, Chris Webber (Preacher), Reggie Miller (Lights) and Lisa Leslie (Betty Lou). Actors Lil Rel Howery (Dax) and Nick Kroll (Mookie) also are among the cast, as is former NBA player Nate Robinson (Boots), who previously appeared in one of the Uncle Drew Pepsi spots.
The film is described as follows on IMDb:
After draining his life savings to enter a team in the Rucker Classic street ball tournament in Harlem, Dax (Lil Rel Howery) is dealt a series of unfortunate setbacks, including losing his team to his longtime rival (Nick Kroll). Desperate to win the tournament and the cash prize, Dax stumbles upon the man, the myth, the legend UNCLE DREW (NBA All-Star Kyrie Irving) and convinces him to return to the court one more time. The two men embark on a road trip to round up Drew’s old basketball squad (Shaquille O’Neal, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, Nate Robinson, and Lisa Leslie) and prove that a group of septuagenarians can still win the big one.
“Uncle Drew” is slated to hit theaters on June 29.
