Report: Saquon Barkley jersey sales break draft-night record

The New York Giants on Thursday night drafted running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. And if the frenzied pace his jersey his (virtually) flying off the shelves, it would appear that Giants fans are overjoyed with the selection.

Fanatics, the world’s largest online seller of officially licensed merchandise that also runs NFL Shop, reports that Barkley’s jersey was not only the biggest seller on draft night, it was the highest-selling jersey on any draft night in the company’s history.

Count Barkley’s new Giants teammate, Odell Beckham Jr., among those who believe this is only the start of Barkley’s domination of the NFL jersey game.

Fanatics declined to provide official numbers, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell. However, Fanatics did indicate that Barkley’s best-selling jersey was followed by No. 1 overall pick of the Cleveland Browns, Baker Mayfield, with No. 3 pick overall pick by the New York Jets, Sam Darnold, coming in at No. 3.

The previous record for top jersey seller on draft night was in 2014 when the Browns selected Johnny Manziel with the 22nd pick.

Any jersey of a player selected in the first round Thursday already ordered will not ship until said player selects his jersey number. Barkley will have the option of selecting No. 26, the number he wore at Penn State, as no Giants player currently uses it.
