J.J. Watt highlights some Texans fans’ disdain when team drafted him (pic)
J.J. Watt without question is among the best players in the NFL. But even the selection of the Houston Texans star was panned by some of the team’s fans when he was drafted.
Watt took to Instagram to share the reactions of the team’s fans when the Texans formally announced they selected him with No. 11 pick out of Wisconsin in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Watt’s pedigree touting him as among the best defensive players in the league, if not the best — when healthy, of course — is without debate. Watt boasts a litany of awards and accolades, including being named the three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, four-time First-Team All-Pro, four-time pro bowler and two-time sacks leader.
And Watt is a great citizen and representative for the league, highlighted by how his incredible and inspirational humanitarian efforts to provide aid for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Watt’s remarkable contributions to the relief efforts in the Houston area garnered him the Walter Payton NFL Man of Year and Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in 2017.
Hindsight is of course always 20/20 in all things draft-related. Still, “Not a good decision,” as one commenter protested?
