Yankees to call up top prospect Gleyber Torres, will start at 2B
According to a report from ESPN, the New York Yankees will call up their star prospect, Gleyber Torres, to the Bronx. This call-up comes amid widespread offensive struggles from the Yankee sluggers.
Torres, 21, will be starting at second base in his debut, batting eighth in the order.
Gleyber Torres said he is “super excited” and slept only 3 or 4 hours last night. Who could blame him? Makes his big league debut today, batting 8th and playing 2nd base for the Yankees.

Bringing up Torres could be the spark the Yankees need to break out of their slump. The silver lining for the Yankees is that they currently rank sixth in the MLB in runs scored — trailing division rivals Toronto, and Boston. Torres posted great numbers in AAA and will bring consistent contact and speed to the Yankee lineup.
“Torres, 21, ranks fifth in Keith Law’s list of top 100 baseball prospects.”
Torres has hit .347 with 3 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run and 11 RBIs in 14 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He was removed from the RailRiders’ 6-5 loss to Toledo on Saturday after six innings.”
The Yankees will look to take two of of three Sunday in the rubber game against Toronto. Yankee ace Luis Severino will be going for the Yankees today against southpaw Jaime Garcia for the Blue Jays.
