Joel Embiid has great explanation for cryptic Instagram post

Joel Embiid raised some eyebrows ahead of the NBA Playoffs with a cryptic Instagram post in which the superstar seemingly predicted an NBA Finals appearance for the Philadelphia 76ers. As compelling as the Instagram dispatch may have been, Embiid’s explanation for it was comparatively amusing.

The Instagram post consisted of a sequence of arguably provocative photographs. Along with a photo of himself, there were images posted of Embiid playing in games in succession against the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. The lineup of teams conceivably could be the route the Sixers would have to take in a quest for an NBA title.

It’s about that time!!! #Playoffs #PhantomofTheProcess

ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne asked Embiid about the cryptic post following the 76ers’ 128-108 victory over the Miami Heat in Game 3 of the teams’ Eastern Conference quarterfinal series on Thursday night.

Hard to believe, but there you have it.

Embiid made his playoff debut Thursday night after sitting out the first two games of the series against the Heat — much to his chagrin — as he completed recovery from a fractured orbital bone, an injury that potentially could have long-term consequences.

A masked Embiid put up 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks in a win that put the Sixers up 2-1 in the series.

Embiid’s outstanding postseason debut clearly inspired confidence in the young superstar.

“They were doing everything they could to take me out,” Embiid said after the game, via ESPN. “But they can’t guard me.

“I’m going to be a nightmare for them. I love this moment. I love being physical. I love attacking, I love contact, so I felt like (my teammates) needed me in that way.”

Perhaps there may be something to Embiid’s cryptic antics on Instagram after all.
