Jim Kelly celebrates removal of feeding tube with chocolate shake (vid)
Jim Kelly is progressing “remarkably well” in his recovery after undergoing surgery two weeks ago due to a recurrence of oral cancer. The Hall of Famer on Thursday reached another milestone in his recovery by having his feeding tube removed.
So, how did Kelly celebrate? With a chocolate milkshake.
Kelly’s wife, Jill, as she frequently has done throughout her husband’s cancer battles, took to Instagram to relay updates on his progress. Thursday, Jill Kelly posted a video of her husband enjoying said shake.
Surgeons at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City on March 28 “successfully removed” cancer from Kelly’s upper jaw and lymph nodes in his neck. The procedure also included reconstruction of Kelly’s upper jaw.
Kelly originally revealed in 2013 that he had been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in his upper jaw. On Aug. 20, 2014, Kelly was declared cancer-free. The Buffalo Bills icon then revealed in March that his cancer had returned, having been discovered via biopsy after suffering severe pain in his jaw.
While Kelly has a tough road ahead, it appears the Hall of Famer is progressing well in his recovery. The doctor who oversaw the procedure two weeks ago expects Kelly to be released from the hospital soon.
