Dwyane Wade: LeBron James ‘arguably the greatest’ player of all-time

LeBron James and Dwyane Wade of course are longtime friends, going back even before they comprised two-thirds of the Big Three that led the Miami Heat to consecutive NBA titles in 2012 and 2013. The two did reunite in Cleveland this season before Wade was shipped back to South Beach in a trade.

On Tuesday night, the duo enjoyed an on-court reunion when the Cleveland Cavaliers faced the Miami Heat at AmericanAirlines Arena, with Wade’s squad beating LeBron’s team by a score of 98-79.

After the game, D-Wade had some intriguing things to say about his longtime pal, specifically related to King James’ standing in the pantheon of all-time NBA greats.

“He’s one of the game’s greatest players. Arguably the greatest,” Wade said of James, via Dime Mag. “I favor Michael Jordan. … So it’s one and two of the greatest players of all time and I get an opportunity to play against one of them.”

It’s hardly surprising the Chicago-native Wade would hold MJ in high regard, nor is it unreasonable to place James just a notch below Jordan as the the greatest NBA player ever at this point.

That said, Wade relished facing off against James.

“Every time I look forward to the environment. I look forward to the competitiveness, the competition of it,” Wade said. “And I want to walk away with the win. So he got me by one right now and I need this. It’s our last time facing him this year so I definitely want to even it out.”

And Wade put up an amazing defensive play in the process to boot.

Tuesday’s loss had serious repercussions for the Cavaliers (44-30) as the team tries to hold on to the third seed in the Eastern Conference. There are a few scenarios that would lead to the Cavs facing the Heat (40-35, currently the seven-seed) in the first round. Now wouldn’t that be something for the old pals?
