Marvin Bagley passes Jabari Parker for most points ever by Duke freshman
Friday night, Duke came out victorious in a low-scoring 69-65 battle against the red-hot Syracuse Orange. In the process, star forward Marvin Bagley passed former Duke forward and current Milwaukee Buck Jabari Parker for most points ever by a Duke freshman.
Bagley finished with 22 of the Blue Devils’ 69 points along with seven rebounds while shooting 8-for-12 from the field. Bagley also became only the sixth freshman ever to score 20 or more points in their first three NCAA tournament games, the last being Duke’s Brandon Ingram – a No. 2 overall pick.

Bagley has enjoyed a stellar freshman season at Duke, averaging 21.2 PPG and 11.1 RPG while shooting 62% from the field. Parker averaged 19.1 PPG, 97 RPG, and shot 47% from the field in his one season at Duke. Parker’s tenure in Durham was cut short due to the massive round of 64 upset by the Mercer Bears.
Bagley told about the record after the game, stating he was “blessed” and “happy that we got the win.”

As it stands, Bagley could be following a similar track of Parker come June, as he is projected to be the No. 2 pick in the draft.
