Russell Wilson on expected at-bat Friday: ‘Get ready’
Russell Wilson has strongly hinted that he’ll get an at-bat during Friday’s spring training game against the Atlanta Braves.
“Get ready for today, that’s all I’ll say,” Wilson said.
The New York Yankees minor leaguer has been in camp all week with the Bronx Bombers. Although his last day at spring training is scheduled for Saturday.
Wilson’s strongly worded hint he’ll get a chance at the plate Friday followed reports surfacing earlier in the day that he’d be made available for the Yankees to use in the exhibition.
Just filed to ESPN, Russell Wilson will make an appearance in today's spring training game for the Yankees, according to a source. He'll get an at-bat. The team originally said he wouldn't play in a game while at spring training.

Wilson has enjoyed his time at camp with the Yankees, who acquired the two-sport star in a trade with the Texas Rangers this past offseason. The Seattle Seahawks superstar quarterback mentioned Monday how much it means to don the Yankees pinstripes, as it has been his lifelong dream. Also, Wilson stressed his appearance at Yankees camp was not some kind of sideshow or publicity stunt.
“Some people always, for me, get confused on ‘is this just a stunt’ or whatever. They don’t know me. If you really know me, baseball’s been part of my blood,” Wilson said. “When you see me make plays on the football field, a lot of that’s a direct correlation to baseball.”
But Wilson’s participation in spring training has been limited this week to batting practice and fielding drills, the latter of which was particularly eventful. It would seem getting an at-bat would be the icing on the cake, as he has not had one since 2011.
