LeBron James calls reports he was checking out Philly schools ‘disgusting’

LeBron James vehemently denied Thursday morning that he spent time during the All-Star break looking at schools in the Philadelphia area, calling such reports “disgusting.”

The assumption underlying what James deems as baseless reporting is that the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar was taking a closer look at Philly schools for his children due to the possibility he could join the 76ers after this season.

James wasn’t having any of it, saying he was otherwise occupied during the break.

“Pennsylvania? Nah. What are you talking about?” James said, via “Over the All-Star break, I was on vacation and then went to Los Angeles.”

The initial reporting concerning James’ purported visit to Philadelphia was ratcheted up by some questionable intel.

76ers color commentator Alaa Abdelnaby relayed this prime piece of gossip during an appearance on “Philly Sports Talk” last week.

“I’ve told this to a few other people, and I have no problem saying this, my brother lives in the Philadelphia area and he told me that LeBron, last week through a superintendent, was in the area checking out some private schools during the All-Star break,” Abdelnaby said, via NBC Sports Philly.

And then there’s this, courtesy of’s Joe Vardon.

James posted photos to his Instagram story of hanging out in Los Angeles the Monday after the All-Star break and of returning to Cleveland the next day to get ready for Wednesday’s practice.

Before the All-Star Game, James and his family vacationed in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

So, despite one Philadelphia-based company funding three billboards in the Cleveland pleading with James to join the Sixers when he is expected to opt-out of his current contract following this season and become a free agent. James called the arguably desperate gesture “flattering” but downplayed any potential impact upon his eventual decision.

And as far as the reports James was tooling around Philly taking a look at schools? He claims to have not heard about them until Thursday, prompting him to pull aside a reporter to inquire about them.

“That’s disgusting,” James said afterward.
