Chris Long parlays Super Bowl gift to teammates into $100K donation (pic)

Chris Long somehow managed to parlay a thoughtful gift for his Philadelphia Eagles teammates in honor of their Super LII triumph into a generous charitable donation.

Long took to Twitter to announce that each of his Eagles teammates will receive bottles of Crown Royal XR whiskey, valued at $130. The bottles come in blue velvet bags embroidered with the message, “Congratulations 2018 Champions,” along with the date of the Eagles’ 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

But the best part of Long’s thoughtful gift is how it has been announced that Crown Royal has made a $100,000 donation to a cause near and dear to the NFL star’s heart.

“Crown Royal donated a total of $100,000 to Waterboys, a charitable organization within the Chris Long Foundation,” a press release from Crown Royal reads, via Crossing Broad. “Waterboys funds life-sustaining water wells for East African communities and Crown Royal helped fund two additional wells for those in need during the football season.”

It’s unclear exactly in what manner the arrangement between Long’s charity and Crown Royal came to fruition. But the fact that the donation was seemingly announced in accordance with Long’s gift presumably is on coincidence. Leave it Long to utilize a gift to teammates to raise much-needed funds for a worthwhile cause.

Long of course is no stranger to admirable and impressive acts of charity. After all, Long is the guy who donated his entire 2017 salary to charity, a gesture that elicited praise from Barack Obama. It would seem Long has once again is doing more than his part to make the world a better place.
