LeBron James targets ‘lazy’ individual in cryptic social media message

LeBron James, as he is wont to do from time to time — actually quite often — took to social media on Wednesday morning to post a cryptic message in an Instagram story.

The perceived purpose of James’ patently cryptic social media musing is to call out an unidentified individual.

“When you become lazy it’s disrespectful to those who believe in you,” James’ message reads.

James has elevated cryptic social media dispatches into something of a passive-aggressive art form. Given all the drama and turmoil surrounding the Cavaliers of late — of which there is seemingly no end — the target of James’ message could be several individuals.

Although perhaps the most likely subject of James’ ire would be Isaiah Thomas, who evidently has quickly become a favorite and confidante of Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, according to Bleacher Report’s Ken Berger. It almost goes without saying a close relationship with Gilbert — with whom James is said to have somewhat of an icy relationship at this stage — would rub James the wrong way.

Speculation abounds of late that James may be in the initial stages of orchestrating his exit out of Cleveland for a second time. And James’ most recent cryptic naval-gazing comes on the heels of him weighing in on the Blake Griffin trade and how the Los Angeles Clippers’ shocking move illustrates a perceived double standard in the NBA when it comes to loyalty.

James in essence stated players are labeled a “snake” for leaving a team while NBA organizations are simply making a business decision when moving a player.

James’ observation about loyalty being a two-way street in the NBA is a compelling one. That said, it will be interesting to see how James defines loyalty — and how much it comes into play — when he determines his NBA future following this season.
