LeBron James wants to reach 30K points on Saturday so sons can watch
LeBron James stands on the precipice of a phenomenal career achievement ahead of Thursday’s game against the Orlando Magic. But if he could have his way, James might just hold off on accomplishing the feat until the Cleveland Cavaliers’ next game. Why? So his sons could see him do it.
James is only 41 points away from 30,000 career points. Should you manage to put up 40 points Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena, James hinted he might shut it down so he can hit 30K during Saturday afternoon’s home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“Hopefully I don’t do it tonight because my kids got school tomorrow,” James said, via Cleveland.com. “Hopefully I’ll wait (until) Saturday. They can come to the weekend games. So, that would be pretty cool.”
Since, LeBron Jr., 13, and Bryce, 10, won’t be in attendance at Thursday’s game, it makes sense for James to want to hold off on reaching such a remarkable milestone until they can be there. In fact, James’ sons often hang out in the Cavaliers’ locker room after games on the weekends. How great would it be for James and his sons to celebrate the moment together in that environment?
We’ve already been made well aware of James’ devotion to his children, which includes daughter Zhuri along with his two sons. In fact, James hinted his kids may have the biggest impact upon when he decides to retire. With all that in mind, to have LeBron Jr. and Bryce in attendance makes all the sense in the world. James himself recognizes the significance of his impending achievement, as he will become only the seventh player in NBA history to reach 30,000 points and the youngest ever to hit that mark.
“I’m joining elite company,” James said. “When I walk into the 30 (thousand) point club they’re going to look at me like, ‘What are you doing here?’ I ain’t supposed to be there.”
