LeBron James condemns controversial ad viewed as racist

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James is among several celebrities who have blasted a controversial ad which has been widely viewed as racist.

The ad, from H&M, features a black child wearing a shirt emblazoned with the message, “Coolest Monkey in the Jungle.”

Widespread condemnation of the ad not surprisingly has occurred in recent days on social media and elsewhere ahead of H&M’s apology. James took to Instagram to showcase a Photoshopped image of the youngster wearing a crown with the shirt featuring Nike’s LeBron logo instead of the controversial message.

James writes in the Instagram post: “@hm u got us all wrong! And we ain’t going for it! Straight up! Enough about y’all and more of what I see when I look at this photo. I see a Young King!! The ruler of the world, an untouchable Force that can never be denied! We as African Americans will always have to break barriers, prove people wrong and work even harder to prove we belong but guess what, that’s what we love because the benefits at the end of the road are so beautiful!!”

As noted in the above CNN tweet, H&M has since issued an apology over the ill-conceived advertisement.
